Upcoming Cosplay Conventions of 2023

Cosplay is a prominent part of Geek Conventions that take place worldwide; many of these events have stood out to us as superior, must-experience events for cosplayers and cosplay lovers alike.

Here is a list of the top upcoming events of 2023:

Comiket – Japan

Otherwise known as Comic Market, this is the largest anime and manga Convention in Japan. This extraordinary event will take place at the Tokyo Big Sight, Ariake, Koto-ku, Tokyo, Japan in Mid-August of 2023.

Entry into Comiket used to be free, but since 2019 a fee of ¥500 will be charged per day; Cosplayers should know ahead of time that an additional cosplay ticket for ¥1,000 will be required for each of the days at this event. Cosplayers will be required to arrive in their normal clothes and change in the changing rooms at the venue. The first Comiket event took place in the meeting room of the Japan Fire Defense Building in 1975.

World Cosplay Summit – Japan

Rated as one of the top international cosplay conventions, this event will be taking place from the 4th to the 6th of August 2023. The Location is: TBC The prices for the tickets to this event are: TBC Cosplayers will be required to arrive in their normal clothes and change in the changing rooms at the venue, and pay an additional fee for a “cosplay ticket”. The first World Cosplay Summit took place at the Rose Court Hotel in Nagoya in 2003.

World Cosplay Summit – Japan


AnimeJapan – Japan

This must-see event will be taking place at the Tokyo Big Sight, East Exhibition Hall, Ariake, Koto-ku, Tokyo, Japan. The in-person event will be held in March from Saturday the 25th to Sunday the 26th from 09:00 to 17:00. There will be a following online event from Monday the 27th to Tuesday the 28th from 09:00 to 17:00. The prices for the tickets to this event are: TBC

The first AnimeJapan event took place at the Tokyo Big Sight in 2014.

DoKomi – Germany

DoKomi takes the chart as the biggest anime event in Germany to date.

This event really goes all out to give you the anime experience of a lifetime; including everything from cosplaying, cosplay photoshoot areas, DoKomi Japanese food festivals, gaming, maid cafés and more!

DoKomi will be taking place at the Düsseldorf exhibition Centre, Stockumer Kirchstrasse 61, Düsseldorf, Germany from Friday the 30th of June to Sunday the 2nd of July 2023.

Ticket prices range from 34€ to 85€ and may vary according to when you order them; the earlier you order, the lower the cost of the tickets!

The term "DoKomi" is an acronym of ドイツコミックマーケット (Doitsu Komikku Maketto) which means German Comic Market and acts as a tribute to the Comiket event mentioned above.

Anime Expo AEX Santiago – Chile

This event will be taking place at the Mapocho Station Cultural Center, Metropolitan Region, Santiago, Chile, South America from the 3rd to the 5th of February 2023.

Tickets can be purchased through their website; prices range from $15 to $60 and are only available while stocks last. This event has been the anime convention of Chile since 2002.

Anime Gaming Expo Fresno – USA

This two-day exposition is one of Fresno’s biggest anime events that will be taking place at the Big Fresno Fair Grounds in California on the 4th and 5th of February 2023 from 10:00 to 18:00.

Ticket prices for this event range from $10 to $50. An additional option to buy “add-ons” at $5 each grants you entry to certain extra activities.

The first Anime Gaming Expo was held on the 28th of March 2003 at the Ramada Inn in Fresno; this was a test to see if hosting an anime convention would be feasible in California.

Comic Con Cape Town - South Africa

The first of two can’t-miss Comic Con events in South Africa.

This wonderful event will be taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Convention Square, Cape Town, South Africa.

The dates on which it will take place are from the 27th to the 29th of April 2023.

The ticket prices for this event are R160 for a single-day pass and R533 for a full weekend pass. Inaugurated in 2016 in Cape Town, This event has already built itself up to be one of the biggest must-attend geek conventions for South Africans.

Comic Con Johannesburg - South Africa

The second of the two can’t-miss Comic Con events of South Africa.

The ultimate pop culture and gaming festival of South Africa will take place at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec, Johannesburg, South Africa.

The dates on which it will take place are from the 22nd to the 25th of September 2023.

The General Access ticket prices for this event are separated between CCA23 Phase 1, and CCA23 Phase 2:
- The CCA23 Phase 1 tickets cost R190 for each of the day passes, and R660 for the weekend pass.
- The CCA23 Phase 2 tickets cost R200 for each of the day passes, and R700 for the weekend pass.

The first Comic Con that took place in Johannesburg was on the 14th of September 2018.

Fan Expo – Canada

“One of North America's largest playgrounds for Comics, Sci-Fi, Horror, Anime, and Gaming” will be taking place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada, North America.

The date of this massive event is from the 24th to the 27th of August 2023.

Tickets for this event are selling as “Advanced Tickets” at a lower price until the 9th of August 2023 and will go back to their “Full Price” thereafter. The advanced ticket prices that are valid until the 9th of August are from $28 for a single-day pass and $155 for both the 4-day pass and the Ultimate Fan Package. The full prices for this event are from $38 for a single-day pass, $140 for a 4-day pass, and $180 for the Ultimate Fan Package.

The first Fan Expo in Canada took place in 1995 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Anime Expo LA - USA

Bringing together fans of Japanese Pop Culture, this event will be taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Downtown Los Angeles, California from the 1st to the 4th of July 2023.

Katsucon Maryland - USA

This exceptional event will be taking place at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center, National Harbor, Maryland, United States from the 17th to the 19th of February 2023.

In order to enter this convention you need to be a registered attendee.
The cost for registration ranges between $35 for kids and $80 for adults; these prices change according to your age as well as when you place your order.

The sooner you order, the lower the price!
Please note: You will be required to have your ID with you to enter the building.

The first Katsucon event took place at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in 1995 and moved to different locations after its third year on account of its growth.
