Syd Mead, the award-winning designer, illustrator and concept artist linked to numerous science fiction films such as Blade Runner, Alien and Tron, has died at the age of 86.

Starting with Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and then doing work designing and illustrating for Blade Runner, Tron, 2010: The Year We Make Contact, Aliens, Short Circuit, Johnny Mnemonic, Mission: Impossible III, and more.

Syd recently provided concept art and designs for the likes of Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium and Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049. Mead also notably provided designs for the anime Turn A Gundam and Yamato 2520.

He apparently died due to complications related to lymphoma, our sincere condolences go to his family, friends, and colleagues at this time of grief. His legacy lives on through all his amazing works, more of his work can be found on his official site – sydmead.com
