Gears of War studio head Rod Fergusson leaves The Coalition for Blizzard
Rod Fergusson has announced he is leaving The Coalition, the studio that runs all things Gears of War, to go to work for Blizzard Entertainment. He is tasked with the development of Diablo 4 and will supervise the entire Diablo franchise.
Starting in March, I will join Blizzard to oversee the Diablo franchise. Leaving is bittersweet as I love our Gears family, the fans, and everyone at The Coalition and Xbox. Thank you, it has been an honor and a privilege to work with you all. pic.twitter.com/0FuO3RFYSQ
I began working on Gears of War over 15 years ago and since then, it has been the joy of my life. But now it’s time for a new adventure. I leave Gears in the great hands of The Coalition and can’t wait for everyone to play Gears Tactics on April 28. pic.twitter.com/Az5w0B631i
Under Fergusson’s direction, the Gears series pushed the boundaries and will remain one of the most played franchises on Xbox, 2019’s Gears 5 was the pinnacle of his work, so his move to Blizzard is the right step for the Diablo series after all Blizzard need to redeem themselves and with someone with the passion and determination like Rod, hopefully, he can steer the franchise in the right direction.
