Amazon announced their plans to use part of the 100,000 electric delivery vans they purchased last year in 2021 as part of their Climate Pledge. The first batch of 10,000 will be spread across 15 cities by 2022.

While most of us don't really care about what a delivery van looks like, or how it functions as long as we get our packages on time and in one piece, however, there is something striking about the new Amazon delivery vans that I really like, from the elongated windshield to the rounded off wheel caps.

Climate Pledge in partnership with Rivian

Amazon partnered with Rivian, an American automaker whose is based in Plymouth, Michigan develops vehicles, products, and services related to sustainable transportation. They partnered with Amazon as they leveraged its customizable skateboard platform to create a first-of-its-kind all-electric delivery vehicle. The current fleet can drive up to 150 miles / 240 kilometres on a single charge, very likely as more of the production is streamlined the vans will most probably have higher ranges.

It seems many companies are pushing to be carbon neutral by 2050, so it is commendable that they have already started with this ambitious objective of 2040, all I know is the more electric vehicles we see, whether delivery or passenger models, will bring us closer to more clean air.
